The City of Paducah will hold its annual Veterans Day observances Wednesday, Nov. 11, and is accepting parade entries, nominations for two awards, and submissions for its poster and essay contest, according to a city announcement released Oct. 6.

The city said the deadline for parade entries, award applications and contest entries is Oct. 22. Entry forms and details are available through the city’s Veterans Day webpage, according to the announcement.

The city said the Distinguished Veteran Award recognizes a veteran active in the community, with preference for candidates who currently live in McCracken County. Anyone who has served in any branch of the military may be nominated, the announcement said. The Patriot Award recognizes a non-veteran who dedicates time to serving veterans and supporting veteran causes in the community, according to the city.

The city said the annual poster and essay contest is sponsored by Paducah Parks & Recreation and the Paducah Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The announcement said the contest has five divisions and that first-, second- and third-place winners will be selected in each division. Entries must be the student’s original work and include the required school and family contact information, according to the city.

The city said the Sunrise Reveille will begin at approximately 6:15 a.m. at Dolly McNutt Memorial Plaza, with Reveille played and the American flag raised at sunrise. Refreshments will follow, the announcement said.

The city said the opening ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. at the plaza and include recognition of the award recipients and contest winners. The parade will start at 11 a.m. at Sixth and Washington streets, travel along Sixth Street, turn onto Broadway toward the riverfront, then turn left onto Water Street and disband at Water and Jefferson streets, according to the announcement.
