The City of Paducah will hold a four-week household bulk-item collection this fall, with pickup scheduled according to residents’ regular garbage routes, the city announced Oct. 5. The program is offered by the Paducah Public Works Department.
Tuesday-route households are scheduled for collection the week of Oct. 26; Wednesday routes, the week of Nov. 2; Thursday routes, the week of Nov. 9; and Friday routes, the week of Nov. 16, according to the announcement. Items must be at the curb by Sunday evening before the assigned week, as crews will start collecting Monday.
Eligible residential households may put out up to three large household items at no additional cost, with no registration or scheduling required, the city said. Furniture, mattresses, couches and qualifying large appliances are among the accepted items. Refrigerators and air-conditioning units must have a visible coolant-free certification tag.
Items must be placed at the curb or roadside—not in alleys, on sidewalks or behind fences, the announcement said. A mattress and box springs count as one item; prohibited materials and piles exceeding the three-item limit will not be collected.
The city said feedback from 473 respondents to a survey about the March pilot showed that 97% were satisfied or very satisfied with the collection process, and 99% were likely or very likely to use it again. The announcement said that feedback helped bring the program back this fall.
The city said more information, including a program calendar, is available through its Bulk Items Program.
