The Paducah Board of Commissioners heard updates on Riverport West, street repairs and the city’s 2027 employee health plan at its Oct. 27 meeting, according to the City of Paducah’s meeting highlights.
The city said the Riverport West project received a $40 million federal Port Infrastructure Development Program grant. Combined with a $24 million BUILD grant announced over the summer and state funding, the project now has $78 million in combined federal and state funding, in line with its estimated cost, according to the announcement. Plans call for a dock with direct rail access at a site adjacent to the Triple Rail Site and less than two miles from the U.S. Department of Energy Paducah site.
The city said project steps still include finalizing grant agreements, developing a wetland mitigation plan and completing construction permits. Construction is expected to take 18 months after groundbreaking, which is anticipated in about a year; the stated goal is to have the facility operating in 2029.
For the current fiscal year, street rehabilitation projects have $3.965 million in funding, the city reported. The city said it completed the Clements Street sidewalk project and listed Levin Street, S. 21st Street and Coleman Road sidewalk design among upcoming work. It has also applied for grants to replace a bridge on County Park Road and rehabilitate sections of Jackson Street, Cruse Avenue, James Sanders Boulevard and County Park Road.
The city said employees enrolled in its health plan will pay an additional $25 per pay period in 2027, and dental premiums will also rise. The deductible for individuals on the investor plan will increase from $3,400 to $3,500. Commissioners approved municipal orders covering health, vision and dental premiums and related plan administration, stop-loss insurance and employee health and wellness spending credits, according to the announcement.
The board appointed Isaac Marrs to the Joint 911 Parcel Fee Appeals Board and Kevin Terry to the Board of Adjustment, the city said. Mayor George Bray also proclaimed Oct. 28 as First Responders Day, according to the city’s summary.
